Cookpal is a mobile app where end-users can become cook buddies sharing cooking expeirence together or to sell catering service.
You saved quite a lot of recipes and would like to try to cook at home but feel that your cooking skills are inadequate or feel a little lonely cooking alone?
Or you want to host a dinner party, but you are so worried that you can not prepare a satisfying meal, and you would wish you have known the go-to person?
Cookpal is the solution to those problems around your kitchen. With this mobile app you can find a cooking buddy to share the cooking experience, plus, you can find a home cook to lean on for any catering situation as well.

The whole design process is based on "Design thinking" framework.
01 Interview
Cooking at home has been favored by more people ever since the pandemic. And there is more digital content on recipes to grab your attention. People's cooking experience has been gradually shaped and shifted in the past months. I would like to dig in
a. If something is wanting in this new reality when we return the semblance of noramlity? b. What would be the frustrations and the new expectations for people in terms of their cooking experience?
I recruited ten people of
different ages and with different culinary experience for better generalizability and conducted 1:1 interviews with them. Also, fifty user surveys have been sent out for gaining better understanding.
02 Affinity Map
The next step is to synthesize data collected from interview process by the affinity map.
03 Empathy Map
Then visualizing user attitudes and behaviors in an empathy map helps to align on a deep understanding of end users.
- Create persona and define the problem -
After coding the responses from the interviews and came up with the empathy map, I found that
there were two other frequently mentioned elements - homecook for healthy diet and cooking in a social sense.
People deem finding a cook buddy and cooking together can be beneficial in two ways - more efficient to prepare a healthy meal at home also a good way to socilaize.

Alice is a work-from-home illustrator. She needs to find a cooking buddy to share a cooking experience together because she prefers homemade food and would like to fulfill her socialization purpose through cooking.

The color palette was chosen based on the colors often seen in food that can stimulate the user's appetite. Purple is from sweet potatoes and eggplant, pink is from protein, and yellow is from fruits like mangoes and bananas. Futura was chosen as it is based on geometric shapes, especially the circle, similar to the round curves that are commonly seen in food.
